"Corduroy road" nghĩa là gì?

"Corduroy road" = con đường nhung kẻ -> nghĩa là con đường dựng nên từ nhiều khúc gỗ xếp cạnh nhau, thường thấy ở những nơi thấp, nhiều đầm lầy.

Ví dụ
The original corduroy road across the swamp was piked in 1909 and within a few months had sunk (chìm) several inches. It was filled several times and holes filled up continually until a concrete (xi măng) road was built in 1923.

On each side is a swamp and the original solution of the crossing worked out more than 50 years ago was a corduroy road and hundreds of logs (khúc gỗ) placed there when the road was first put through. They are still imbedded (gắn vào) under the original surface but have sunk many feet below the surface.

It's known as a corduroy road — and the New York State Museum provided information about it to The Citizen last week after tweeting Aug. 11 about an effort to locate (định vị) more of it.

The part of the road excavated (khai quật) by the museum contained another sign of corduroy road construction. Underneath the logs were lattices of small branches, which were commonly used to prevent such roads from sinking into the mud. That was a major risk of the roads, as they were laid in low, wet areas like the Seneca River, where dirt roads would be too muddy to traverse (vượt qua).
