"Ask gap" nghĩa là gì?


"Ask gap" có gap là khoảng ngắt quãng -> từ này nghĩa là sự khác biệt về tiền lương giữa những người đòi hỏi mức lương cao hơn (và nhận được) so với những người không hỏi.

Research shows that the pay gap, which is well documented, partly stems from the ‘ask gap’: the difference in salary expectations (mong đợi) between groups, which undercuts women and minorities in particular.

Ask gaps have many culprits (thủ phạm), but key among them is the devaluation of women relative to men, and employees of colour relative to whites. Often people internalise (nội bộ hóa) these expectations. It can be harder for women to accurately assess their value, says Semnani-Azad. This might lead women to accepting the first job or salary offer, while men are more likely to wait for higher offers to land.

Clearly, more wage information is necessary, especially for people starting out in their careers. But it’s not sufficient for closing ask gaps.

How else to bridge the bid-ask gap in uncertain times? Rising use of earnouts shows the way. Nearly a fifth of mergers (liên doanh) included an earnout mechanism compared to 15 percent in 2019, the new data show.
