"Dutch reckoning" nghĩa là gì?

"Dutch reckoning" = tính tiền kiểu Hà Lan -> nghĩa là hóa đơn không ghi đủ các món/đồ, thường có giá cao vô lý; chặt chém. Việc dùng từ Hà Lan để mỉa mai bắt nguồn từ mâu thuẫn giữa hai nước Anh và Hà Lan thế kỉ 17.

The insults (lời xúc phạm) came fast and thick. Dutch soldiers, according to the English, needed “Dutch courage,” or alcohol-fueled bravado, to fight. A “Dutch uncle” was a stern and authoritative figure, not a kindly uncle. “Dutch feasts” were parties where the host got drunk first, while a “Dutch reckoning” was an unitemized bill with unexpected charges. “Dutch comfort” was the small consolation (an ủi) that a bad situation wasn’t worse.
In the Anglo-Dutch case, a series of trade skirmishes (chạm trán) and naval wars in the 1600s led to a remarkably large number of derogatory expressions entering the English language, such as Dutch book, Dutch concert, Dutch courage, Dutch leave, Dutch metal, Dutch nightingale, and Dutch reckoning.
Little is known of Jan Coutereels other than that he had his own “French School,” a school that included the French language in its curriculum (chương trình dạy học), in the Dutch city of Middleburg and that he was an active Dutch reckoning master and author of several books on business arithmetic (số học) written during the period 1596-1624. His Cyffer-Boek (Cipher Book) of 1690 is typical of his efforts.
