"Sophie’s choice" nghĩa là gì?

"Sophie’s choice" = lựa chọn của Sophie -> nghĩa là phải đưa ra quyết định vô cùng khó khăn vì không kết quả nào tốt hơn kết quả nào (do cả hai đều tốt hoặc tệ như nhau).
Ví dụ
Policymakers are facing Sophie's choice. Policy measures aimed at curbing inflation (lạm phát) risk puncturing the growth recovery. Continuing the stimulus to assist recovery will further accelerate an already unbearable inflation.
A different day, a friend from Kyiv writes: “Am in Bukovina, took 2 dogs and 1 cat with me, Sophie’s choice, left 3 cats behind, being cared for by a neighbor.” It’s unbearable, she tells me. She is 12 miles from the Romanian border. Eventually, she crosses with only one dog.
There’s also that nagging feeling that it’s Sophie’s choice between personal comfort versus impact on the environment. And not all of us have the luxury of solar panels on the roof, which is fine for our daytime comfort, but unless we can also afford a big battery, what about the night?
