"Werther effect" = hiệu ứng Werther -> nghĩa là bắt chước tự tử theo một vụ tự tử được đăng tải rộng rãi. Báo chí Đức đặt ra từ này vì họ cho rằng tỉ lệ tự tử tại quốc gia này tăng sau khi tác phẩm “The Sorrows of Young Werther” (Nỗi đau của chàng Werther) của đại thi hào Johann Wolfgang von Goethe được xuất bản vào năm 1774.
