"Back-bencher" = người ngồi hàng ghế sau -> nghĩa là thành viên của Quốc hội Anh không có chức vụ chính thức trong chính phủ hay các đảng đối lập.

Ví dụ
A back-bencher, he spoke feebly (yếu đuối), and preferred to remain invisible. Today though, Hari is a different person. He is playing the feisty (hăng hái) poet Subramania Bharati in a play his school is organising.

Labor backbencher Josh Burns has called on the government to reinstate (phục hồi) the 20 Medicare supported mental health sessions, describing the cut to only 10 subsidised appointments as “woefully inadequate”.

The backbencher said while he had “really good conversations” with Mr Butler and Assistant Minister for Mental Health Emma McBride, there were still disagreements (bất đồng) over the government’s response.

Although he became chair of the OCRRA board, his leadership over the years as a “back-bencher” was critical to the agency’s survival. His experience and professional know-how rescued the agency from fiscal insolvency in a turbulent (hỗn loạn) time.
