After more investigation, the phrase ‘haud yer wheesht’ is Scottish in origin. The phrase was first used in the 14th century and can be used as a verb, a noun, and an interjection.
For example, one phrase mentioned (được nhắc đến) by Hammond is ‘I’ll give ye a skelpit lug’, which May accurately translates as ‘I’ll give you a clip around the ear.’ Another odd one is ‘Haud yer wheesht’ that means shut up. Our personal favorite is ‘Yen bum’s oot the windae’ which means you’re lying or exaggerating (phóng đại).
You know, the same way your mum does when she picks up the phone and puts on her telephone voice after shouting at you to ‘haud yer wheesht’ fur a minute, or when you are asked for directions (đường đi) in town off someone and repeat what you say with different words after you realise they are a visitor to the city.
