Dixiecrats -> nghĩa là nhóm đảng viên Dân chủ miền Nam tách khỏi đảng năm 1948 vì phản đối lập trường của đảng về xóa bỏ phân biệt chủng tộc; đạo Tin lành bảo thủ miền Nam.

The Southern “Dixiecrats” walked out of the convention (hội nghị) and nominated (vinh danh) Strom Thurmond for president. With this secessionist (chủ trương ly khai) strategy, the segregationists (chủ trương phân biệt chủng tộc) hoped to capture the White House. But they lost, as Truman won the ’48 Presidential election anyway.
That year, he campaigned for president as a protest candidate (ứng viên) against Truman. He ran under the States Rights Democratic Party—or “Dixiecrats”—an alliance (liên minh)) of southern Democrats disaffected (bất bình) with the national party’s stance on civil rights.
Abraham Lincoln’s Republican Party was destroyed quite a long time ago. More recently, stimulated (hoạt động) by northern Democrats’ role in ending segregation in the South, the Republican Party remade itself into the successors of the Dixiecrats in the South.
