"Bystander apathy" = hiệu ứng bàng quan -> nghĩa là hiện tượng tâm lý xã hội khi càng nhiều người chứng kiến cuộc khủng hoảng thì càng ít khả năng có người giúp đỡ nạn nhân.
Ví dụ
On a large scale, the Holocaust and other tragedies (bi kịch) are facilitated by bystander apathy and the low cohesion (cố kết), commitment, and empathy that contribute to it.
The story is ultimately about bystander apathy, though, says Tveiten. “We’ve had some times in our lives where we weren’t that brave or we didn’t have the courage to step in, so this is a kind reminder.”
This is called the Bystander Effect [1] or Bystander Apathy; it’s a social psychological theory in which humans are more likely to look on than assist (hỗ trợ) someone in need of help.
The original concept of bystander apathy was premised (tiền đề) on three component factors: diffusion (truyền bá) of responsibility (a reduction in individual responsibility due to the size of a crowd), evaluation apprehension (the concern about being judged by others for taking action), and pluralistic (đa nguyên) ignorance (the tendency to underestimate an emergency, simply because no one else is doing anything to help).
