"Free will" -> nghĩa là ý chí tự do, được tự do hành động mà không bị ràng buộc.
Ví dụ
The debate (bàn tán) on free will vs. determinism (thuyết định mệnh) has continued unabated (không giảm sút) for roughly 2500 years and seems to have become more prolific (sản xuất nhiều) in the last ten years. Recently, Stuart T. Doyle presented his view in support of free will, the libertarian version.
“…I argued that many of our actions are caused by our wills; that is, by our conscious desires and intentions. This is not disputed by most (what I’ll term) free will deniers (người từ chối).” But I am one of the “free will deniers” who does dispute this claim. Our conscious desires and intentions often precede (đến trước) our choices, but this hardly means that they cause them.
We might feel like we have free will, but that is just an illusion. And the same is the case for Thomas: it might seem to him like he is free, but his actions are decided by the layout (sắp đặt) of the tracks and the timetable of the railway. What he does is not open to alternatives. He is, after all, a steam engine governed by the laws of thermodynamics.
I can make out a heading upside down. It reads: “Free Will Is an Illusion.” Bingo. My fears are confirmed. I am being set up to be a stooge in an effort to discredit free will.
