"Ablative absolute" -> nghĩa là cấu trúc trong tiếng Latin trong đó một danh từ hay đại từ và phụ từ cùng làm công cụ để tạo thành cụm trạng từ diễn đạt chung về thời gian, nguyên nhân hoặc hoàn cảnh của hành động.
Ví dụ
The way an ablative absolute modifies (thay đổi) the idea of the main clause can vary. It can set up a condition for the main clause. It can establish a cause/effect relationship. It can refine (cải tiến) the time element. It can modify the attendant circumstances. It can offer opposition to the idea of the main clause in order to set up a clarifying contrast.
Conclusion: grammatically, the ablative absolute limits the extent of the main clause. Able-bodied citizens were able to own weapons in case they were called to serve as citizen soldiers in an emergency.
As an example, consider the English sentence, "Once he sent the girl to school, he was sad." The Latin translation for the first words of the opening phrase would be "Puella missa." "Puella" is the ablative case of the Latin word for "girl", and "missa" is the past participle form in the ablative case of the Latin word for "to send." When translated into English, the word "once" is included to express the time frame (thứ tự), which is implied in Latin by the ablative absolute. A literal (nghĩa đen) translation of the Latin would be "the girl having been sent."
