"Balanced literacy" nghĩa là gì?

"Balanced literacy" = cân bằng đọc viết -> nghĩa là phương pháp dạy học cân bằng giữa học đọc viết do giáo viên hướng dẫn và tự học.

Ví dụ
Balanced literacy usually includes phonics (âm học) but focuses more heavily on getting students to love reading at an early age. It employs the theory that students learn to read by reading and through exposure to rich literature.

Balanced literacy also can include the "cueing system," which teaches students ways to figure out a word beyond just looking at the word itself. That could include looking at the pictures, or just the first two letters and then guessing (đoán) what the word is, and then checking the sentence to see if that word would make sense.

For the record, balanced literacy touches on phonics, experts say, but it does not give it the laser focus of a “structured literacy” program, which is rooted in phonics and other fundamentals (cơ bản) and steeped in the science of reading.

With New York City and several states shifting (thay đổi) their approach (phương pháp) and balanced literacy guru Lucy Calkins admitting to flaws in her influential curriculum (chương trình dạy học), “Units of Study,” this academic debate is coming to a head in California.
