'Give someone a free hand' nghĩa là cho phép ai đó làm bất kì điều gì cần thiết trong một hoàn cảnh nhất định (to allow someone to do whatever they think is necessary in a particular situation).

Ví dụ
His manager had given him a free hand to make whatever changes he felt necessary.

The idea is to give a free hand to Bilawal as the PPP chairman and allow him to select a team of his choice.

It had asked Ogra to assess the impact of deregulating (giải điều tiết, gỡ bỏ quản lý) petrol margins following the committee’s refusal to give a free hand to bigwigs (nhân vật quan trọng, tai to mặt lớn) of the oil industry.

In every era, humanity produces demonic (hiểm ác, quỷ quái) individuals and seductive (có sức cám dỗ) ideas of repression. The task of statesmanship is to prevent their rise to power and sustain an international order capable of deterring them if they do achieve it. The interwar years’ toxic mixture of facile (dễ dàng tạo ra sự hời hợt) pacifism, geopolitical imbalance, and allied disunity allowed these forces a free hand.
