"Go a-begging" có beg là khẩn cầu, nài xin, cầu xin, van xin -> từ này nghĩa là không ai cần đến, không ai dùng, không có người nhận, thường nói về công việc hay sản phẩm.
Ví dụ
Ball State University (USA) midfielder Chelcy Ralph did not let the opportunity (cơ hội) go a-begging. A tigerish, box-to-box player, Ralph has featured in all seven games under Jones. However, yesterday’s fixture was her first competitive start of the qualifying series and she marked it with a hattrick.
Spokesperson for the National Lottery Fran Whearty says it’s surprisingly rare (hiếm gặp) for a big win like this to go a-begging:
For a good man to leave his city , his rich fields and go a-begging is of all things the most miserable (khốn khổ). Wandering with mother dear and aged father with little children and wedded wife.
Gale found himself in one-on-one situations with Díaz in the 70th and 79th but allowed both chances to go a-begging, while Los Quisqueyanos, as they are also known, came close to scoring (ghi điểm) in the 87th as well as a deflected shot had Brathwaite beat but came off the upright.
