"Brokered convention" nghĩa là gì?

"Brokered convention" = hiệp định môi giới -> nghĩa là hiệp định diễn ra sau khi không có ứng cử viên nào giành được đa số đại biểu trong cuộc bầu cử sơ bộ của tổng thống trong cuộc bầu cử đầu tiên. Khi đó, cuộc bầu cử sẽ được 'môi giới' hay quyết định qua việc buôn ngựa và các giao kèo kín.

The reason we haven’t seen a brokered convention in more than half a century is that these days the voters in the primaries (cuộc bầu cử chọn ứng cử viên của Đảng cho cuộc tuyển cử sắp tới) and caucuses usually manage to have awarded someone the most delegates (ủy thác) before the conventions meet.
The second thing to understand about brokered conventions is that they generally occur (xảy ra) when there are deep splits inside the Party—splits that can’t be easily papered over.
So here are a few scenarios (viễn cảnh) that could lead to a brokered convention. They mostly apply to the Republicans since the Democrats have only two candidates one of them is likely to get the magic number before they meet in Philadelphia.
