"Doughnut city" nghĩa là gì?

"Doughnut city" = thành phố bánh vòng -> nghĩa là thành phố với cư dân sống chủ yếu ở vùng ngoại ô, vùng trung tâm lại rất đìu hiu.

Ví dụ
Revitalisation (tái sinh) projects aimed at increasing residential populations in inner urban areas since the 1980s have resulted in almost wholesale (bán buôn) expulsion (trục xuất) of the marginally housed. The now mythic (thần thoại) “doughnut city” that Melbournians became so embarrassed about, and so proud to repopulate, was in fact a city that housed its homeless.

The “doughnut city” in fact offered cheap accommodation (nơi ở) for the marginal and homeless. This included night shelters, rooming houses, private residential hotels, and crisis accommodation.

This transitional housing was hardly ideal (lý tưởng), but its loss deprived homeless people of temporary (tạm thời) shelter and no doubt contributed to burgeoning (đâm chồi) numbers of rough sleepers. It also signifies that Melbourne’s “doughnut city” was never entirely hollowed out. It offered relief to, and was occupied by, the homeless.

This starts to rearrange the urban structure towards a ‘doughnut city’, because the city centre gets less and less vibrant (sôi nổi); consumption of local consumption services — such as food, retail and haircuts — falls and a growing proportion of unskilled, now living near the Central Business District, move to work in the final sector for a lower pay.
