During my March-April 2023 visit to Australia. I had a chance to meet with Air Vice-Marshal Michael Kitcher, Deputy Chief Joint Operations (DCJOPS) and to talk with him about the Joint Operations Focus on regional (địa phương) defence after a long period (giai đoạn) in the Middle East.
Air Vice-Marshal Kitcher concluded (kết luận): “The challenge of how we optimize the Australian geography (địa lý học) for defence is real and is quite significant. As is how we use Australian geography for the best effect of allies (đồng minh) and partners that we might invite to deploy here. This is an ongoing process and a real challenge.”
As PACAF’s Australian deputy commander, or DCOM as known in Air Force vernacular (tiếng lóng), Air Vice-Marshal Newman works alongside U.S. Air Force DCOM counterpart, Lt. Gen. James Jacobson, to assist management of the command and help lead a formidable force of nearly 46,000 people across the Indo-Pacific region.
