North Korea executed (hành hình, hành quyết) Kim Hyok-chol, its special envoy (đặc phái viên) to the United States, and foreign ministry officials (quan chức bộ ngoại giao) who carried out working-level negotiations (đàm phán cấp chuyên viên) for the second US-North Korea summit (hội nghị thượng đỉnh) in February, holding them responsible for its collapse.

Kim Yong-chol, a senior official who had been US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s counterpart in the run-up to the summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Hanoi, is also said to have been subjected to forced labour  (lao động cưỡng bức) and ideological education (giáo dục ý thức hệ).

The North Korean leader is believed to be carrying out a massive purge (thanh trừng hàng loạt) to divert attention (lái sự chú ý) away from internal turmoil (bất ổn nội bộ) and discontent (bất bình).

China’s US$3.1 trillion in foreign exchange reserves may not be sufficient (không đủ) to support a crisis (khủng hoảng) in the economy, analysts say

...Beijing’s increasing scrutiny (xem xét/kiểm soát kỹ lưỡng) of the usage of the US dollar by Chinese companies and individuals, in the absence of any immediate signs of a financial crisis, along with accelerating efforts to lure in foreign capital, have raised suspicions (nghi ngại) among analysts (nhà phân tích) that the world’s second-largest economy is worried about the risk of running short of the US dollar.

...policymakers (nhà lập chính sách) worry that by digging further into its savings, even just letting foreign reserves (dự trữ ngoại hối) fall below the psychologically important US$3 trillion level, could invite market speculation and set off a vicious cycle (vòng luẩn quẩn) of sharp capital outflows and currency depreciation (phá giá đồng tiền). Authorities have kept foreign reserves stable at around US$3.1 trillion since burning through almost US$1 trillion between mid-2014 and 2017 to defend the yuan.

Genetic tests (xét nghiệm) carried out by medical professionals (chuyên gia y tế) are revealing (tiết lộ) that up to one-in-10 people in the UK don’t have the father they think, a top health boss has revealed.

Ian Cumming, Chief executive of Health Education England, said that the situation is raising a number of difficult questions (câu hỏi hóc búa) for the health services (dịch vụ chăm sóc sức khỏe).

The Chairman of the NHS Leadership Board for England also explained that people are not currently told if genetic tests within families highlight a case of paternal discrepancy (không nhất quán, trái ngược nhau) as it was simply an ‘incidental finding’ of the procedure.

But, with whole genome sequencing likely to be widely available in the next 10 years, he said it was a 'moral quandry (tình cảnh khó khăn về đạo đức)' that needed solving.

"Soaked to the bone" nghĩa là gì?

Photo by Jack Finnigan on Unsplash.

'Soaked to the bone' có từ soak là ngâm, thấm nước -> soaked là hoàn toàn ướt, ướt đẫm, ướt sũng -> từ này nghĩa là 'ướt như chuột lột'.

Ví dụ
Niko returns home, haggard (hốc hác, phờ phạc) and soaked to the bone by a rainstorm — as you do when you’ve finally been confronted by your wife’s mistress (nhân tình).

If you've ever been on a backpacking trip where it started raining midway through and you spent three days soaked to the bone, you know how important it is to bring a good rain coat (áo mưa).

Johnson County has been soaked to the bone in recent days. FOX4's weather team reported the metro has cleared 5 inches of rain since Saturday, which is well above average. That's left homeowners scrambling (tranh cướp, tranh giành) to get the water out of their cellars (hầm rượu, hầm chứa thức ăn, hầm tránh gió bão) and to bail out (tát nước) their basements (hầm).

Fields cites thinkers like Diogenes, Shakespeare and L. Ron Hubbard as inspirations for his new album, which according to a press release “soundtrack[s] his dream of a world soaked to the bone in the unequaled compassion that’s prevailed through his 50 years of marriage and counting.”
