"Old Hollywood" nghĩa là gì?

Elle Fanning went full Old Hollywood in a dramatic Dior ensemble. The young actress dressed in theme to attend a screening for Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

I was really interested in telling a story of old Hollywood that was different than we’ve seen previously. As an actress and someone who loves film, I loved living in that era. It’s so glamorous (quyến rũ) and beautiful.

Toho's reopened theatres mostly offer a mix of old Hollywood, recent Japanese hits and holdovers (đình đám) like Oscar-winning Parasite that were in cinemas before the closures, although that mix varied between theatres, its website showed.

Beginning in November 2019, I embarked (dấn mình vào) on the Old Hollywood Best Picture Challenge, where I will endeavor (nỗ lực) to watch all 270 films that were nominated (được đề cử) and/or won for Best Picture at the Academy Awards between the years 1927-1969.

"Hollywood moment" nghĩa là gì?

Đi thảm đỏ thôi có cần đẹp vậy không? :D Photo by Caroline Bonarde UcciTheo

"Hollywood moment" nghĩa là khoảnh khắc/thời điểm kịch tính, như trong phim hoặc một vai diễn.

Ví dụ
Critics (nhà phê bình) hailed (ca ngợi) Lane as an instant star out of the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, but the actress is still awaiting a major Hollywood moment.

A Hollywood moment for NBA legend Kobe Bryant proved a big draw (hấp dẫn) in a Beverly Hills auction (đấu giá) of sport memorabilia (kỷ vật), his handprints in concrete selling for $75,000.

It was such a joke. This is so stupid. We had three actresses and this is their day and I was trying to keep it cool. But this is a very Hollywood moment, where I'd never done a chemistry read before.

“Standing on that carpet (thảm đỏ), and then you’re walking up the steps that you’ve seen a million times … you’ve seen photos of Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn … and Dorothy Dandridge was there walking up those steps,” Harrier reminisces (nhớ lại). “It was definitely a ‘whoa, Hollywood’ moment. I’m just the girl from the suburbs of Chicago, and to be in those situations always feels a little surreal.”

"Inopportune moment" nghĩa là gì?

"Inopportune moment" nghĩa là thời điểm/khoảnh khắc không thuận lợi, không may, không phù hợp.

Ví dụ
“Don’t just teach biology, also teach behaviour. You could tell a boy it’s normal to have an erection (cương cúng), but also talk to him about what he could you do if he has one at an inopportune moment,” shares Shah. “Children need to understand that they must give and get permission (consent (đồng ý)) to initiate anything sexual ranging from talking to touching,” adds Shah.

Well before this, India had been witnessing a persistent economic downward slide. The pandemic could, thus, not have come at a more inopportune moment. Prime Minister (Thủ tướng) Narendra Modi’s announcement of a ₹20-lakh crore (mười triệu Ấn) stimulus package (gói kích cầu) was, hence, timely even though economists now believe that in real terms it amounts to around 2% of GDP rather than 10% as the government makes out.

The country has been torn asunder on class lines, due to the unforgivable administrative mis-management of the lockdown. The prime minister’s studied silence and the finance minister’s (bộ trưởng bộ tài chính) gloating (hả hê) tone betray (phản bội) an absolute disconnect from the humanitarian crisis (khủng hoảng nhân đạo) unfolding before our eyes. Even state governments have stealthily (lén lút) used this inopportune moment to dilute labour (thay thế nhân công) laws and rights.

You will have your moments that best illustrate (minh họa) the unique footballing terrain (địa thế) we plough in Scotland.

As a member of a loaded Kansas City Chiefs offense (tấn công), Sammy Watkins will certainly have his moments in 2020, but should you draft him in your 2020 fantasy football league?

When the crowds disappear and entertainment stops cold the silence inside Ashland Theatre can be deafening (điếc). “It’s just making us really sad to have the doors closed again," General Manager Cathy Buckenmaier said. “We definitely have our moments of frustration (thất vọng) looking at an empty building all day long.”

"Have a blond moment" nghĩa là chỉ trạng thái không thông minh, hơi ngớ ngẩn, hành động kỳ lạ, ngốc nghếch. Từ "blond/blonde" (tóc vàng hoe) là một kiểu định kiến đặc trưng nói con gái tóc vàng thường ngốc (xinh mà ngu ấy).

Ví dụ
Bitch, are you having a blond moment? What the fuck did you just hear me say? He's come to take your ass back home.

Clearly the billionaire is having a bleached blonde moment, recently recalling her iconic (biểu tượng) Met Gala look where Donatella Versace herself instructed (hướng dẫn) Kylie to wear a platinum blonde bob.

I consider myself a quick study, but I was thoroughly confused (bối rối). What did this have to do with aiding (hỗ trợ) my country? Or Senator (Thượng nghị sĩ) Santorelli? Maybe I was having a blond moment, but I didn't think so.

Gen had been having grand mal seizures (cơn động kinh) since she was about sixteen, although we now suspect she was having seizures before then. She would have a “blond moment,” where she would pause for a brief second while talking.

"At this moment in time" nghĩa là gì?

"At this moment in time" nghĩa là ngay tại khoảnh khắc này, ngay thời điểm này, lúc này, ngay bây giờ.

Ví dụ
One thing Amber has tried to guard (đề phòng) against is comparing herself to other moms and what they are doing at this moment in time.

My dear girl. I couldn't possibly give you an answer at this moment in time, but it sounds as if it may give me a chance. I will give you serious thought I promise, and thank you both so much.

None of us trained to lead services via zoom. But all of us trained to search our souls in order to teach, to reach, and to touch. And at this moment in time of our world, we use whatever tools we can to harness (khai thác) community to visualize (hình dung) hope!

Whether it's going to look at football with a different angle, I'm not sure. But at EFL level, football does need some funding from somewhere in the next four, five, six months or else I think we'll see sides going into administration (quản trị). That'd be a real shame, but the Premier League don't see it as their urgent responsibility (trách nghiệm) at this moment in time.

"Any moment now" hoặc "any minute" nghĩa là nhanh chóng, sắp xảy đến.

Nobody knew how the country was going to reopen. There was that anticipation (dự đoán) of at any moment now they could say, ‘You can bring people back’.

In Lisbon, amid the steep alleyways (hẻm giốc) of the popular Alfama district, Paulo da Silva shares this concern. "It's really sad, there is nothing good in all this," says the 45-year-old. "Foreigners revived (hồi sinh) this neighborhood and now everything could halt (tạm dừng) again at any moment."

"A-ha moment" nghĩa là gì?

"A-ha moment" hiểu như tiếng Việt vậy, nghĩa là khi bạn "à há" vì bất ngờ nảy ra ý tưởng/hướng giải quyết vấn đề.

Ví dụ
“There is nothing better to me in life than presenting kids with a challenge and helping them through the struggles (tranh đấu), and then eventually seeing that sense of accomplishment (thành tựu) and how rewarding it is to see them get that ‘aha moment’ of, ‘I can do this,’” Kuehne said.

The revealer, AHA MOMENT, is how puzzlers describe the experience of suddenly figuring out the theme or even a single entry. “AHA!” your brain says, triumphantly (đắc thắng), at precisely the same moment it directs the palm of your hand up and toward your forehead at high speed. That is an AHA MOMENT.

Although we are about three-quarters of the way through the 12-week Fittest Loser Challenge, the four competitors (đối thủ) have already overcome some heady obstacles (trở ngại). Yet it is the more subtle memories -- a brief look in the mirror, or fit of a new pair of jeans -- that stand out to them. We will call these "aha!" moments.

"A senior moment" nghĩa là gì?

:D Photo by Andrea Piacquadio from Pexels

"A senior moment" nghĩa là cái khoảnh khắc bạn biết mình lão hóa rồi, lẩm cẩm, nhớ nhớ quên quên ấy, hoặc hành xử ngớ ngẩn một chút.

Ví dụ
When we get there we find out that, oops, senior moment, we forgot the Garden Terrace Lowe’s charge card (thẻ thanh toán tiêu dùng), so to rescue (giải cứu) the trip we have to put the $60 valve on our own charge card.

Aside from the big senior moments she didn’t get to experience, Tye said she thinks she’ll miss her everyday routine most, even small moments such as eating at a restaurant, driving around late at night with friends and hugging others.

“We were looking forward to all those fun senior moments,” she said. “Their hard work will not be celebrated at it has been traditionally. My daughter is in the Army and will miss the graduation that has been scheduled. I am so proud of her, but it’s disappointing (thất vọng).”

He certainly showed that pesky (làm phiền) press corps, those whining whippersnappers (người cư xử nhâng nháo), that the drug was fine for his fellow Americans, despite the scientific community (cộng đồng khoa học) having its doubts. Another senior moment, like your grandpa telling you leeches (con đỉa) could be used to dispel (xua tan) the coronavirus, “like we did back in aught nine (1909)”.

"(One) be with you in a moment" nghĩa là hãy kiên nhẫn chờ một chút, người đó sẽ đến ngay.

Place the documents (tài liệu) on the table, then please stand aside. I'll be with you in a moment.

Fourth, get the person's name at the other end of the line, write it down and use it in conversation. Example: “Mr. Reyes, Mr. Santos will be with you in a moment." This shows courtesy (lịch sự) and respect (tôn trọng) for your customer or caller.

I very readily took the oath (lời thề) required of me: upon which he says to me, Stay here till I return, I will be with you in a moment; and accordingly he came with a lady in his hand, of singular beauty, and magnificently apparelled (y phục lộng lẫy).

Nurse: “There aren't any options really. Just sitting or walking around. Are you allowed out?”
“I don't know. I'll ask.” Julie went over to the nurse's office and knocked on the door.
“Be with you in a moment,” was the response. The nurse sitting there did not even turn around, but kept his back to her.

Photo by Damir Spanic on Unsplash

"Budget (something) for (something)" nghĩa là để dành, tiết kiệm một thứ gì đó (thường là tiền hoặc thời gian) để dùng cho một thứ khác.

Ví dụ
"For me personally, I have had many of my gigs cancel for April and for May. Many of us depend on that extra income to pay bills or budget it for something else. The money that I was going to earn in April and May from my gigs was going to be used to pay for my son's High School Graduation party," he said.

“We have completed working of 18 months with the mechanism for Quarterly Tariff Adjustments (QTA) to implement the second quarter after the first quarter is over. This has little bit of financial hit but Power Division has asked Finance Division to pay pending subsidies (tiền trợ cấp) and budget it for next fiscal year," said a senior official on condition of anonymity.

One night I was watching a movie with my husband Jamal and I remember I had four tubs of blueberries next to me, my ‘popcorn’ for watching a movie. I turned round and said to Jamal, ‘how many people in Dubai could sit with four tubs of blueberries and treat that as popcorn?’ Even if you are a CEO of a company and have a great salary, AED22 a punnet in Spinneys? You could afford it, but you would budget it for the week.

Inspect (kiểm tra) your security cameras and other security devices as you make your rounds. Are your cameras pointed at the right locations? Are they hooked up to your video recording solution? Is your camera’s firmware updated to the latest version? Ensure your system is fully prepared for your extended shutdown.

The rain will stay very light for those areas seeing it, but just enough to be a nuisance. Also, clouds will continue to limit sunshine through the afternoon with brisk southerly winds that will occasionally gust up to 20-25 mph. At times, visibility will be reduced, so it’s really a good idea to even use your low beam headlights as you make your rounds this afternoon.

"History repeats itself" nghĩa là gì?

Bây giờ chúng nó mỗi đứa cầm một cái điện thoại rồi còn đâu :( Photo by: The New York Public Library on Unsplash

"History repeats itself" = lịch sử lặp lại -> câu này được nói khi những chuyện trong quá khứ lặp lại, xảy ra một lần nữa.

Ví dụ
EMMERDALE resident Harriet Finch will end up with a big decision to make when her boyfriend Will Taylor drops a bombshell (quả bom) next week but could she end up getting the latter arrested in a huge twist as history could repeat itself?

Stadiums continue to sit empty. There are few answers on when they may be filled again. While leagues and conferences (hội nghị) discuss a return to sports, many of those plans bar fans for the foreseeable future. While times are unique, it's not the first time sports has been affected by a pandemic."The virus is on a similar time track," said Andy McNeil, a Georgia Tech graduate and mechanical engineer. "History does repeat itself."

History repeats itself and I think people are resilient (kiên cường) and try to do the best they can under the circumstances.
