Thế đã rửa tay chưa?

nhân viên burger king ở florida dùng giẻ lau sàn để... lau bàn :D
-----

a spokesperson for Burger King said, “The action depicted (miêu tả, thể hiện) in the video is unacceptable (không chấp nhận được) and not in line with (không tuân theo) our brand standards (chuẩn thương hiệu) or operational procedures (quy trình vận hành). We have strict protocols (quy định nghiêm ngặt) around cleanliness and food safety. The restaurant owner will be re-training his team on all operational protocols.”

Burger King did not immediately respond to Fox News' request for comment.

Tình hữu nghị truyền thống góp phần nâng cao mối quan hệ Pháp - Mỹ

liệu có tàn lụi sớm không,

như cây biểu tượng do macron tặng trump hồi thăm nhà trắng mới năm ngoái thôi, died rồi :D
-----

It was a symbolic gift (món quà mang tính biểu tượng) from Emmanuel Macron to Donald Trump at the height of their “bromance” (= 'brother + romance') last year: an oak (cây sồi) tree ceremoniously (kiểu cách, khách sáo) planted in the manicured lawns of the White House by both leaders.

Macron, on a state visit to the US at the time, tweeted that the sapling (cây non) would be “a reminder … of these ties that bind us” and the “tenacity (sự ngoan cường, kiên trì; sự dai, không quên (trí nhớ)) of the friendship (tình bằng hữu)” of the two nations. From little acorns, great transatlantic (xuyên đại tây dương) ties (mối quan hệ) would take root and grow, was the message (thông điệp).

Now, just as symbolically with relations strained (căng thẳng) between the two, the oak tree has reportedly died.

Le Monde reported its demise (chết, qua đời, băng hà) last week as the two presidents met in Caen for the 75th anniversary of the D-day landings, saying it was a “metaphor (phép ẩn dụ) for a relationship that isn’t what it was”...

"Cut a dash" nghĩa là gì?

Như này đã "khá bảnh" chưa các chị em? Photo by NeONBRAND on Unsplash
"Cut a dash" có từ dash là vết, nét (tô màu trên bức họa...), vẻ phô trương, dáng trưng diện -> cụm từ này nghĩa là có vẻ ngoài bảnh bao hoặc cũng có nghĩa là làm ra vẻ, làm ra dáng, khoe khoang, phô trương.

Ví dụ
He felt well groomed and he cut a dash. He hoped Charlotte thought the same. Donald had acknowledged that George would ask for Charlotte's hand in marriage today. George felt sure she would agree.

British Prime Minister (Thủ tướng Anh) Tony Blair strutted (sải bước, đi khệnh khạng, vênh váo, oai vệ) into the fashion world on Tuesday -- then revealed that his attempts to cut a dash in the beachwear (trang phục đi biển) range proved a disaster.

Alison, who had a shrewd (sắc sảo) understanding of her grandfather, wrote to Marjory following his death: No one could say he behaved very perfectly in his life, but one always has a weakness for those who cut a dash and hold their heads up in spite of hardship (khó khăn) and humiliation (tủi nhục).

Its just such a morning as it was the eighteenth of last September, when I set off from my sister Cut-a-dash—I dare say you know Citizen Cut-a-dash, my brother-in-law? — Well, his wife is my own half-sister (cùng cha khác mẹ) ; but we ean't much alike, for you see I am a plain (giản dị, bình thường) body, and have got three children to work for.

"Make a dash for" nghĩa là gì?

Photo courtesy: Judecat (Sand between my toes )
"Make a dash for (something or someone)" = xông tới phía ai đó hoặc cái gì đó.

Ví dụ
Dylan Dreyer made a dash for Fennick of Bond Street for her Royal Ascot choices. Style decorum (trang trí) demands that straps (dây đai) for ladies dresses must be at least an inch wide. Dress lengths can be no shorter than an inch above the knee. Hat bases (đế mũ) must be 4 inches wide, but there is no restriction on how large a hat can be.

A herd of cows were asking for trouble when they made a dash to McDonald’s after being thrown from their trailer (toa moóc). The brazen (vô sỉ) cows made a beeline for the drive-thru but don’t worry, they weren’t made into burgers. Instead, they created absolute mayhem (tình trạng lộn xộn) in the surrounding area as they charged across the road.

IF the bride, groom or any wedding guest should suddenly make a dash for the loos (nhà vệ sinh), it’s time for you to spring into action (bắt đầu hành động). Making a scene is the last thing anyone wants on their big day, so no matter who the guest is, if they’re being sick from too much prosecco (một loại rượu) or that dodgy canape (bánh nướng), help them in whatever way you can.

"Grasp all, lose all" nghĩa là gì?

Photo courtssy: CHRISTOPHER DOMBRES

"Grasp all, lose all" = chụp lấy tất cả thì mất hết. Câu này khuyên mọi người đừng tham lam, có thể sẽ gặp điều xấu hay bất lợi. Tiếng Việt cũng có một câu rất hay là "Tham thì thâm."

Ví dụ
In a meeting (cuộc họp) with settler (khu định cư) leaders (lãnh đạo) last month, Netanyahu revealed that U.S. Ambassador (đại sứ) to Israel David Friedman told him not to go overboard (quá nhiệt tình) when pushing (thúc đẩy) for new construction (công trình) in the settlements. Netanyahu quoted (trích dẫn)Friedman by using the Hebrew equivalent (tương đương) of "grasp all, lose all."

Madanes also criticized (chỉ trích) the military's flagship (tàu chỉ huy) Gideon plan, led by outgoing IDF Chief of Staff (Tham mưu trưởng) Gadi Eisenkot. "The five-year (năm năm) plan attempted (cố gắng) to change too many things at once (cùng một lúc), and at least part of them correspond (tương ứng) with the phrase 'grasp all, lose all.' I would recommend (đề xuất) the general staff (tất cả nhân viên) to hold a thorough (kỹ lưỡng) inquiry (điều tra) into the Gideon plan," Madanes wrote.

Ambition (tham vọng) is a desire (mong muốn) to take on more than you can realistically (thực tế) accomplish (đạt được), to constantly (liên tục) strive (phấn đấu) for improvement (cải thiện), to grow both personally (cá nhân) and professionally (công việc), and, of course, the desire to generate (tạo ra) more income (thu nhập). However there comes a time when ambition crosses a line (vượt qua ranh giới), and when that happens it becomes greed (tham lam). Greed is the desire to chew (nhai) more than you can eat, a desire that distracts (mất tập trung) you from realistically possible goals (mục tiêu). Greed is wanting to get more than what you have actually earned, obtaining (thu được) maximum (tối đa) profit (lợi nhuận) at minimum cost (chi phí), or as an old adage (ngạn ngữ) has it: “Grasp all, lose all.”

"Easier said than done" nghĩa là gì?

'khiến cho nước Mỹ vĩ đại trở lại', hồi đó lỡ nói dại/trót hứa đại :) Photo courtesy: Gage Skidmore

"Easier said than done" = nói thì dễ, làm mới khó (nói thì dễ, cứ thử bắt tay vào làm xem). Cụm này được dùng đề nói về những việc mà nói thì có vẻ dễ dàng nhưng thực tế khi làm lại rất khó khăn.

Ví dụ
Opening a branch office (văn phòng chi nhánh) in China is easier said than done because of all the government regulations (quy định chính phủ).

While we all know we should unplug ("rút phích cắm", ý nói ngưng sử dụng điện thoại, kiểm tra email, mạng xã hội v.v...) while on vacation (khi đi nghỉ), the truth is, that’s sometimes much, much easier said than done. Between work, life, and all the trappings (cạm bẫy) of social media (mạng xã hội), it’s hard to even realize (nhận ra) how much of our lives depend (phụ thuộc) on being plugged in until we set an intention (ý định) not to be.

Now, admittedly (thật lòng mà nói), turning down the volume (giảm âm lượng) when Trump is involved (tham gia) is easier said than done. Here's a man who literally (theo nghĩa đen) just ignored (phớt lờ) a finding (phát hiện) from his own government (chính quyền) that easing (nới lỏng) rules on power-plant (nhà máy phát điện) coal emissions (phát thải than) would kill 300 to 1,500 people a year because doing so gives him a better shot (cơ hội) at winning a few votes (lá phiếu) in swing states (những bang có sự khác biệt số phiếu giữa các ứng cử viên không cao, bang dao động) like Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Thực hư chuyện cá mập cắn cáp quang

A project that would bring high-speed internet across Kentucky will be delayed because company representatives say an “abundance” of squirrels (con sóc) have chewed (nhá, gặm nhấm) through wiring (đường dây).

The Courier-Journal reports lawmakers (nhà lập pháp, người làm luật) in the state’s capitol questioned reports of ravenous (háu đói) squirrels Tuesday, blocking (từ chối; ngăn cản) officials in charge of the KentuckyWired project from borrowing an additional $110 million.

This isn’t the first time the project has been denied extra funds. KentuckyWired has been plagued (gặp khó khăn) from the beginning by delays and cost overruns (vượt quá, bội chi), running nearly four years behind schedule (chậm tiến độ).
