The German dearly loves a masquerade (dạ hội giả trang). Mr.Bartholdt was parading (phô trương) the "German Vote" in Congress in January, 1915, with the idea of "throwing a scare” into Uncle Sam.

One day at work one of the workers at work brought a monster fright mask (mặt nạ quái vật) and claw (cào) to work to scare the girls. I asked him to let me borrow them and he said that it was okay. I brought it home and I decided to throw a scare into my wife.

Ví dụ
If you couldn't find the pitcher of cream (hũ đựng kem) sitting right smack in front of you, she said, “If it were a snake, it woulda bit you.” Or “None so blind as those that refuse to see.”

At which point my mother would casually walk over to the refrigerator (tủ lạnh) and remove his lunch bag, which was, of course, right in front of him the whole time, saying as she did it, “If it was a snake it would have bit you!" Big laugh from me.

She was so adamant (kỷ cương) about where things were kept that I could never find anything in my own home after she had put things away. When I would inquire (dò hỏi) about the whereabouts of a particular object, she would often say, “Kim Boone, if it was a snake, it woulda bit cha!" I remember her using that phrase even when she babysat me as a young girl.

We're playing every day, at 5:30 we play Snakes and Ladders, which in America is called Chutes and Ladders, and it's become a family routine (thói quen) now and it's fantastic (tuyệt vời).

In the world of sport we often use the image of swings and roundabouts (cái đu và vòng ngựa gỗ). In the 2020 Vodacom Super Rugby season we should rather be mind-eyeing (chú ý) a game of snakes and ladders. This is the ninth edition of the Journal’s Rules for Thanksgiving Touch Football. I can’t believe it—we’ve made it almost an entire decade! We’ve outlived all expectations and most NFL coaches! They’ve got to let me grind out at least one more edition of this nonsense, right? Who stops a tradition at nine? Life cannot be sustained through economic systems, especially those that create billionaires and large entities that amass (tích lũy, cóp nhặt) excessive personal, national and global material wealth. Instead, life is about living in harmony with nature. It is about thriving in harmony with the planet. We have to live ‘by design’ and not ‘through defiance (kháng cự, bất chấp)’.

With the fire blocking his escape route, the man was forced to take an "alternative route" out of the building. "He was very lucky to get out with his life." Volunteer firefighters from all around the region attended the fire, and crews used six pumping appliances and five tankers to subdue the blaze. "Get out while the getting’s good" nghĩa là gì?

"Get out while the getting’s good" = Hãy ra khỏi/trốn thoát khi còn có thể, còn an toàn và trước khi mọi chuyện trở nên khó khăn và tồi tệ hơn.

Ví dụ
“We’ve actually been asking for this to be the last season for a while, because we feel like it’s time to get out while the getting’s good. We want to leave [the fans] wanting more. We don’t want to overstay our welcome. All the clichés.”

Which is such wild timing, like good for you way to get out while the getting's good Fiona Hill. So you mentioned John Bolton. She was a senior official under him during his tenure as national security advisor. How much do you think the committee is going to use her as a stand in for Bolton as he continues to say a pass on testifying.

In his statement, King said he'd talked it over with his wife and kids (they're both adults), and decided that "after 28 years of spending 4 days a week in Washington, D.C., it is time to end the weekly commute and be home in Seaford." We're not sure if that translates to dead girl, live boy, or whopper (điều nói dối trơ trẽn; điều nói láo không ngượng mồm) of a financial scandal. Or perhaps he just wants to be able to get out while the getting's good, although he emphasized that while he's still in Congress he plans to vote against impeaching Trump, and to support Trump's 2020 bid.

Turn the lights out (tắt đèn) and get ready to be scared out of your wits. With guaranteed (đảm bảo) jump scares (nhảy ra hù dọa) this series is not for the light-hearted (vui vẻ vô tư) but perfect for avid horror fans.

It is however the atmosphere and the way Infliction deals with terror and fear (nỗi kinh hoàng và sợ hãi) where the game excels tremendously (kinh khủnh). I’m not afraid to admit that at times Infliction has utterly (hoàn toàn) scared me out of my wits – and that’s coming from someone who has played a good deal of horror experiences and is more than used to jumpscares.

I’m not easily scared, but I was genuinely nervous (thực sự lo lắng) to experience (trải nghiệm) this “sensory encounter” (cuộc gặp gỡ giác quan) of Ghost Stories. "Get out of time with" nghĩa là gì?

"Get out of time (with someone or something)" = Không kịp thời gian -> Không theo kịp/không giữ được nhịp độ hoặc bước cùng với ai/điều gì (ví dụ: hát/nhảy sai hoặc trật giai điệu).

Ví dụ
Emotion will never get out of time. Even it’s not your own story, it moves you to tears and imprints (in dấu) itself in your mind.

We didn't get out of time – now we're left there with time weighing upon us like a giant anvil (cái đe), me way out there in front, mastermind of an academic disaster.

We break the fourth wall every once in a while. There’s a constant running joke of when we get out of time with something like, “Hey that’s a Catch-22. Is that a thing yet?” We will actually reference that whereas in the past, we’ve never kind of broken the fourth wall like that. The lesson we learned is, “Lighten up, Francis.”
